Bangor lies about 70 miles northeast of the Capital City of Augusta, with Portland and South Portland, a bustling economic hub, about 50 miles beyond that. Bangor is also within a reasonable drive of such interesting Maine cities as Auburn, Lewiston, Rockland, Waterville and Biddeford.

The Bangor School District offers many opportunities in a variety of schools. Feeling a profound responsibility for providing quality education, the district expects academic excellence from all its students. Orono, in Penobscot County, is home to the main campus of the University of Maine. Five institutes of higher learning lie within easy commute to Bangor students.

The nearby Acadia National Park encompasses over 47,000 acres of mountains, woodlands, lakes and an ocean shoreline. This popular tourist destination epitomizes the rocky and rugged Maine Coast. It offers many places to explore, including over 40 miles of biking along old tree-lined carriage trails and several historic lighthouses. The Bangor Region also lies just an hour from the great northern Maine wilderness and Mount Katahdin, which is the endpoint for the national treasure known as the Appalachian Trail.
